The House Of Elemis Scented Candle in Mayfair No.9 is beautiful in appearance and aroma, as the nine essential oils blend beautifully when this candle is burned for at least two hours. This results in a mellow scent, and as I burned the candle the first time for about three hours, the pleasant aroma was so relaxing. I usually prefer luxury gourmand candles, but I also like this blend for my spa days at home. They can create a lovely, tranquil mood, and this one absolutely does. Candles of higher quality tend to be more fragrant than less expensive candles, so I try to ensure that essential oils used in the candles I purchase are my favorites scents.

I use many Elemis products, as I love the consistent high quality with every item that I have tried. This is my first candle by Elemis, and it doesn’t disappoint. The fragrance actually smelled stronger even before I opened and burned it, which might be a bit much for some, while others will appreciate it. But when it is burned, that scent becomes more mellow, and it lasts longer than less expensive candles, as they are made with better quality ingredients. This is a clean-burning candle. I love that the 47 hour burn time is indicated on the box, which is something I look for in quality candles, as well as an even and clean burn, which this candle also has. I took pictures and a video of the candle burning for a little over three hours (I posted them for you), and I can tell that the quality of the wax is excellent. This candle is also packaged very well. This is a lovely gift for yourself, or for someone special. There are other scents that I see that Elemis offers if you prefer a different fragrance. I am looking forward to trying the other scents! Enjoy!

This review is for people like me who won't buy a candle from that very fragrant mall store until they get under $13.

First off, I think this candle is unfairly criticized for it's scent. Yes, it is a strong scent, but 4 out 4 people in my house liked the smell and did not object to using this candle. The smell is a very natural, essential oil smell--as opposed to a heavy, artificial, perfume smell. The scent carries well and is maintained throughout the life of the candle. Everyone had a slightly different interpretation of the scent, but it specifically reminded me of the hallway around Relache spa in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel (a subtle lavender fragrance blended with the clean, fresh smell of the nearby pool).

This candle is indeed a slow burning candle. On the first lighting, it took around 4 hours just to fully melt across the top. You need to allow plenty of burn time for each individual lighting to make sure the wax stays even across the top. The rate of melting speeds up as the wax level decreases.

This is a small candle. It is about the size of small coffee cup. The container looks nice with a simple design and small logo; and it gives off a nice glow when lit.

As you can see from the review designation, I received this candle as a free item. We very much enjoyed this candle, but I'm not sure that I could justify spending the money to buy a replacement. If you enjoy splurges and finer things (and you do not have an overly sensitive olfactory), go ahead and give this candle a try. If you think the price of this candle means it will somehow change your life... maybe pass on this one.

Mayfair No. 9 is an herbal-floral fragrance with notes of lavender, eucalyptus and geranium. It reminds me of what you'd find in an upscale spa. There is definitely something relaxing about the smell. But, be aware that it is a little strong and perfumey up close. I use candles for decorative purposes rather than burning, so I like ones like this that give the room a subtle scent even when unlit.

The container is simple and elegant off-white glass. In the photo, it is sitting on my off-white toilet for color comparision. The little plastic cover is pretty and could be used to keep the scent from fading, although I don't think it will last long. For this price point, I would have liked a wooden lid.

I recommend this for adding a spa-like element to your bathroom. The candle is really nicely presented, so it could make a nice gift. Even better if it was paired with a gift card to a spa or some Elemis bath products.

Upon opening my package, I was immediately slapped in the face by this smell (Mayfair no 9) and it was NOT pleasant. It says lavender but I love lavender scents and this is hardly that. My husband says it smells like cheap soap, I don’t even know where to begin to describe the smell but cheap soap is close. The candle looks great and the box it came in was decent but the scent is just ridiculously cheap smelling for this being one of the most expensive candles I own. I occasionally splurge on candles in this price range and this is nowhere near as nice as anything I’ve used in that price range, even ones with scents I didn’t like. It must be the soapy smell because it really just smells cheap. The smell is ridiculously fake and not at all relaxing. It burns well enough but I don’t think I’ll reach for it and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. Very disappointed because I’ve tried this brand’s skincare before and this doesn’t match their usual standards. Usually I’d give a higher star rating on products like this if it’s just that the scent isn’t for me, but I can’t imagine that this overpowering, cheap smell is for anyone at this price point.
